We have some lovely releases this Valentine's Day. Paul Young and his band tagged The Royal Family, appeared live on Rockpalast in Essen on March 30th, 1985. He was at the peak of his pop powers during this concert, working together with a nine-piece band. The 2LP Live At Rockpalast 1985 is available as a first pressing on orange vinyl and the package includes an insert. Love Zone is the sixth album recorded by the Trinidad-British R&B singer and songwriter Billy Ocean, including his 1985 hit "When The Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going", which reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 2 in the US. This release is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on transparent pink vinyl. Emergency Ward! (1972) is Nina Simone's statement on the Vietnam War. The entire first side consists of an 18-minute medley of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" and a poem by David Nelson called "Today Is a Killer," set to music by Simone. This title is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on transparent red vinyl.
In The Skies (1979) is the second solo album by British Blues Rock inventor Peter Green, who was the founder of Fleetwood Mac and a member from 1967-70. Accompanying Green on this album were several experienced session musicians, including Snowy White, who went on to work with Pink Floyd before joining Thin Lizzy. Available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on marbled transparent green vinyl. The Melodians are a rocksteady band formed in Jamaica, which recorded several hits. Their most famous song “Rivers of Babylon” reached world fame after Boney M. scored a giant worldwide hit with it in 1978. This release is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange vinyl. Eastwood Rides Again follows the theme of Lee 'Scratch' Perry & The Upsetters' previous classic, Return Of Django. The groove isn't just the rocksteady rhythms you'd expect, but it sounds like a more spacious version of the style. The title is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on orange vinyl.
The music to the multiple-award-winning movie 1917 is composed by Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, Road to Perdition). Since the film is designed to be told in one continuous shot from cinematographer Roger Deakins, Newman's pulse-pounding score often serves as a unique form of editing. 1917 is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on translucent green vinyl. The package includes an 8-page booklet with movie pictures and liner notes by Sam Mendes. To celebrate the release of “Find Me”, André Aciman's brand new novel and sequel of Call Me By Your Name we're releasing a limited CMBYN edition of 10000 copies on transparent red vinyl. The records are housed in a customized PVC jacket with “SOMEWHERE IN NORTHERN ITALY” engraved on the back and the package includes a poster. The soundtrack to the Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant movie Notting Hill is another classic formula. It offers everything a Romantic movie needs, from Elvis Costello and Al Green to Shania Twain and Bill Withers. The Valentine's Day 2020 edition is available as a limited pressing of 1000 individually numbered copies on translucent “pink heart” vinyl. Julia Roberts face on the gatefold sleeve got a velvet touch.
Notting Hill is the 1999 romantic comedy classic which was well received by critics and became the highest-grossing British film released in that year. At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic's George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones' Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake's own brother among them. The music to the movie is composed by Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, Road to Perdition).
Eastwood Rides Again follows the theme of Lee 'Scratch' Perry & The Upsetters previous classic, Return Of Django - and like that one, the groove isn't just the rocksteady rhythms you'd expect - but a more spacious version of rocksteady.
In The Skies (1979) is the second solo album by British Blues Rock inventor Peter Green, who was the founder of Fleetwood Mac and a member from 1967-70. In The Skies was released almost a decade after his first solo stint The End Of The Game (1970).
Paul Young and his band, tagged The Royal Family, appeared live on Rockpalast in Essen on 30th March 1985. With the finances and backing to bring together a band capable of serving as the perfect foil to his tried and tested white soul/pop amalgam the Rockpalast shows Young, brimming with confidence and at the peak of his pop powers.
Call Me By Your Name, the multiple-award-winning and critically acclaimed film by Luca Guadagnino, is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the novel by André Aciman. Guadagnino found himself resonating with Sufjan Stevens' lyricism through his work and initially asked Stevens to record an original song. Eventually, Stevens contributed three songs to the soundtrack.
Emergency Ward! (1972) is Nina Simone's statement on the Vietnam War, and by dealing with matters more spiritual than political, this album aptly reflect the events of the day.
