ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK - TAXI DRIVERRobert De Niro's legendary performance in Taxi Driver ensured that this Scorcese classic ended up on many a 'best movie of all time' lists. It was also Bernard Hermann's last ever soundtrack. Like no other he composed a dark and threatening atmosphere that drags you into Bickle's twisted mind. There are only a handful of soundtracks that work on vinyl. Music On Vinyl is extremely proud to finally have this gem in its catalogue!
GUN CLUB - MIAMI
The Gun Club was formed by Jeffrey Lee Pierce, former head of the Blondie fan club in Los Angeles. Joining him was Brian Tristan, who was later renamed Kid Congo Powers during his stint with The Cramps. By 1982, the band had signed to Blondie guitarist Chris Stein's Animal Records and temporarily relocated to New York to record 1982's Miami. This album features Stein as producer, and you can hear Debbie Harry on backup vocals on select tracks. This is hardcore snake-charming music, evil, smoky, and brash. In the bird's-eye view of history its songs are all classics.
SLOWDIVE - PYGMALION When Slowdive disbanded in 1995 music fans widely associated it with the demise of the shoegaze genre. Their last sign of life was Pygmalion and it was, after Just For A Day [MOVLP354] and Souvlaki [MOVLP202] a totally different and more abstract album. They began to incorporate more elements of ambient electronica on Pygmalion. Tracks like "Blue Skied An' Clear" and "Crazy For You" demonstrate that the songs are still there, somewhere -- they're just buried under more abstract sounds than before. Music On Vinyl is very proud to complete the Slowdive catalogue with this stylistic masterpiece!
KINGS OF LEON - ONLY BY THE NIGHT Only by the Night is the fourth album by Kings of Leon, released worldwide in September 2008. The commercial success this album experienced was enormous, peaking in the charts in more than ten different countries. Two of the singles from the album smashed the charts: "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody". Worldwide it sold more than 6 million copies! Need we say more? Music On Vinyl is proud to make this album available again on vinyl in a beautiful package with a vinyl only bonus track!
SANTANA - ABRAXAS
After the release of Abraxas in September 1970 Santana made clear that there was no such thing in his music as 'mindless conformity' and this unorthodox mix of Salsa, Rock, Jazz and Blues proved to be quite successful. This album, that due to its variety would be a nightmare to marketeers in the '90s, peaked at #1 in the Billboard Top 200 in the '70s. A classic!
GILLAN - GLORY ROAD Upon departure of Deep Purple, Ian Gillan wrote a string of excellent solo albums. Glory Road came out in 1980, a high-octane Hard Rock album that leaves many to wonder why Deep Purple albums just weren't the same anymore after Gillan's departure in 1973. Surrounded by top musicians, Gillan knows how to make a cohesive and powerful album. Hard riffs, phat drumfills and vocal gymnastics are the recipe for an album that made it to #3 in the British album charts.
