Song Education, André Hazes, Golden Earring, Tim Buckley, 2CELLOS, Johnny Winter, Lee Perry, John Mayall and Jack's Mannequin.
After a relatively quite week last time, we pick up the pace and announce some very special releases this time...
First and foremost: our sublabel Vinyl Base's second release 'Song Education' is now available in all your favorite record stores! This album is a compilation of your favorite old skool songs from series such as Stranger Things, Riverdale and Sex Education. These series are full with classics that origin between the sixties and nineties. Song Education is available on solid red vinyl and contains an insert with information about the featured artists.
Next is none other than André Hazes. His songs became classics and are indispensable when talking about Dutch music culture. Now, his songs are collected into a new compilation album, 'Hazes 2'. The record contains songs from his first album “Zo Is Het Leven” up until two singles after his passing. Hazes 2 is now available in a limited edition of only 3000 individually numbered copies on silver coloured vinyl with an insert with pictures and credits.
When talking about legendary Dutch artists, it's impossible to miss Golden Earring. Despite the fact that their discography consists of no less than 30 albums, 'To The Hilt' is one to add to your collection. This album from 1976 is considered to be one of their most complex albums musically. Now, To The Hilt is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on silver coloured vinyl.
Time for another classic, this time Tim Buckley's 'Happy Sad' is now available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on gold coloured vinyl. This album is proclaimed by critics as one of Buckley's best albums. Happy Sad was his way of exploring his jazz roots and combining it with his obtained title as folk pioneer.
Where Tim Buckley stood out with his folk, 2CELLOS excel in their own genre. These two young Croatian cellists achieved sensational success by taking the cello to a new level. Their playing style has broken down the boundaries between different genres of music, from classical and film music to Pop and Rock. This selftitled album is now released as a 10th anniversary edition of 1500 copies on white coloured vinyl.
Finally, Johnny Winter's 'Captured Live', 'Africa's Blood' from Lee 'scratch' Perry, John Mayall's 'Spinning Coin' and 'The Glass Passenger' from Jack's Mannequin are now available on black vinyl.
To sum it all up, more than enough reasons to pay another visit to your local record store!
The Glass passenger is the second album by American alternative rockers Jack's Mannequin. It captures frontman Andrew McMahon during a darker period, after he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
Young Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, together known as 2CELLOS, have achieved sensational success by taking the cello to a new level. Their playing style has broken down the boundaries between different genres of music, from classical and film music to Pop and Rock. 2CELLOS have no limits when it comes to performing live and are equally as impressive when playing Bach and Vivaldi as they are when rocking out AC/DC. Their debut album is a thrilling collection of chart-topping rock and pop songs performed in their signature style.
Song Education is a new compilation that serves to familiarise youth and young adults with popular music from the 60's through the 90's. Some of the artists included on this record are Roxy Music, Duran Duran, The Cutting Crew, Elton John, Salt-N-Pepa and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
Heralded by critics as one of the best albums of the sixties, Happy Sad saw Tim Buckley exploring his jazz roots and combining them with his signature folky sound.
Upon release in 1971, Africa's Blood was the first record Lee “Scratch” Perry released under his own name, although his band The Upsetters do appear on most of the tracks. There's an undeniable influence from American contemporary R&B, but still Perry's signature dub and reggae fusion shines through.
Spinning Coin is a worthy successor to the Bluesbreakers' previous album Wake Up Call. The album is peppered with some great work, certainly on a par with Wake Up Call. “Ain't No Brakeman”, “Long Story Short”, “Voodoo Music”, “Fan The Flames” and of course the longest and last track of the album “Remember This” are all very much worth a listen.
Golden Earring were active for 50 years from 1961 until 2021. To The Hilt was released in 1976 and is considered to be one of their most complex albums. More than half of the songs are over 7 minutes long and musically the songs are very diverse. It is the last record that features Robert Jan Stips on keyboards.
John Dawson Winter III, better known as Johnny Winter, was an American singer and guitarist. Captured Live! is his second live album, released in 1976 to positive reviews. It features mainly cover songs, including songs by John Lennon, Bobby Womack, Bob Dylan and more.
