Hooverphonic, Republica, Golden Earring, Status Quo, Focus, Behind The Dykes 2 and many more
We are thrilled to announce our releases for this year's Record Store Day. This year, RSD will be split up into two parts, with the first drop planned for 12 June and the second drop planned for 17 July. We've got excellent limited edition releases lined up for you, and with the exception of Magma, all albums are released on coloured vinyl.
June 12 will see the much anticipated release of Hooverphonic's A New Stereophonic Sound Remixes, the first in a range of four Hooverphonic remix EP's, all carefully selected by frontman Alex Callier. The UK is represented by Republica, releasing their debut studio album including the hit “Ready To Go” on both blue and red vinyl, and by Status Quo, whose early compilation album The Rest Of... will be released on purple vinyl.
This first drop also includes exciting releases from the Netherlands, including Golden Earring's smash hits “Twillight Zone” and “When The Lady Smiles” (combined on a 7” for the first time). Batmobile's two brand new songs “Ba-Baboon” and “Everybody's Dancin' (But Me)”, are also released together on a 7”. And with releases by Focus (Singles, Deep Cuts & BBC Live), The First International Sex Opera Band (Anita) and Supersister's The Sound Of Music (1970 - 2020 The First 50 Years), you can finally get your hands on some much sought after vinyl records by legendary Dutch acts. And as if that's not enough, Krezip are also releasing their single Seventeen/You Are Not Alone on June 12.
On 17 July, we proudly present the compilation Behind The Dykes 2, the follow-up to the hugely successful first edition that was released on RSD2020. Blue Feather's 12” version of Call Me Up/Let's Funk Tonight and the compilation What's A Woman - The Blue Sides of Vaya Con Dios by Vaya Con Dios are scheduled for Drop 2. So is Simples by Magma - three of their most sought after 7” records now available together on a 10”! Additionally, 90's shoegaze outfit Chapterhouse are set to release Rownderbowt, a 4-LP compilation of their biggest hits and rare tracks on black & white marbled vinyl.
And of course, we couldn't leave out the soundtracks this year. So we're releasing Naakt Over De Schutting (Naked Over The Fence), the soundtrack to the 1973 Dutch movie, for which Ruud Bos composed a fantastic blend of jazz-funk, easy-listening, soul-jazz and vocal pop-rock.

Anita by The First International Sex Opera Band is hands-down one of the most curious records ever to emerge from the Dutch psychedelic scene. The group of musicians, based around Sandy Coast members Ron Westerbeek and Onno Bevoort, created this psychedelic space rock nugget during some midnight downtime in a studio in 1969. Both sides contain one continues track, simply called “Anita's First Appearance Part 1 and Part 2”.
Dutch rock group Focus - founded in late 1969 - was the first continental European rock group to reach a worldwide audience and to tour extensively in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and Japan. This Singles, Deep Cuts & BBC Live double album combines original single versions, some deep cuts from their albums and recordings off their 1973 BBC In Concert performance at the London Paris Theatre.
Behind The Dykes 2 - More Beat, Blues And Psychedelic Nuggets From The Lowlands 1966 - 1971 is the follow-up to the hugely successful first edition that was released on RSD2020. The concept is the same: Much sought after Dutch beat and psych rarities on 2LP colored vinyl, with amazing artwork, track-by-track liner notes and band photos. All songs on volume 2 have been newly transferred and remastered from the original master tapes, some in their original mono versions, including 2 newly unearthed and previously unreleased gems.
Supersister was a Dutch progressive rock band and featured Robert Jan Stips (vocals/electric piano), Sacha van Geest (flute), Marco Vrolijk (drums) and Ron van Eck (bass). When Supersister first came out in 1970 they were quickly seen as one of Holland's most creative and unique bands, both amongst their fans and peers. Their original first five albums were inspired by the likes of Soft Machine, Caravan and Frank Zappa. This brand new 2LP compilation, features songs from the original five albums plus the 2019 album. It was compiled especially for Record Store Day by the band's leader Robert Jan Stips. The artwork was also created especially for this RSD release.
Dutch soul and funk band Blue Feather was founded by brothers Ed and Ronald Brouwer in 1976. Soon Jan Willem Weeda, Dirk Nusink and Rob Hoelen joined and together they developed a mix of quality 80's funk/disco, a unique sound for a Dutch band. The first single “It's Love” came out in 1980 but it was the 1981 released double a-sided 12-inch with the long versions of “Call Me Up” and “Let's Funk Tonight” that gave the band success. “Call Me Up” is a light playful vocal song while “Let's Funk Tonight” contains a tight funk/disco groove with a long instrumental bass and drum break.
This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hooverphonic's debut album A New Stereophonic Sound. Music On Vinyl in cooperation with Sony Music and Hooverphonic frontman Alex Callier are releasing 4 Hooverphonic remix EPs. Each EP represents a Hooverphonic album; A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular, Blue Wonder Power Milk, The Magnificent Tree and Presents Jackie Cane. Alex Callier selected the best remixes of their songs for each remix EP. All 4 remix EP's are scheduled for release in 2021 and are cut on 45 RPM and pressed on 180 gram audiophile vinyl. “A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular remixes” is available on Record Store Day.
