Hoobastank, Brinsley Schwarz, Amen, Frou Frou & J.J. Cale
Crawling around looking for details of cocaine
Are you ready for some brand new releases on vinyl? This week we got five totally different albums, so there's something for everyone.
Let's start with taking a small step back in time to the beginning of this century. A lot of artists were spreading their wings on the modern rock sounds. One of them is called
Hoobastank, an alternative 4-piece rock band from California. Their self-titled debut album was released in November 2001 and the first single "Crawling In The Dark" was a breakthrough hit. The song is a really strong effort in delivering a solid rock track, just like "Running Away", which shows us the vocal ability of lead singer Doug Robb.
Hoobastank is now available for the first time on vinyl pressed on 1.000 individually numbered copies on green vinyl and the package includes an insert with song lyrics.
Brinsley Schwarz can be seen as the definitive pub rock band, the music style to which they were evolving during the 70s. The detailed sound of their fourth album
Nervous on the Road and the smooth production of the songs makes it an excellent album to listen to. Their music combines the best of rock & roll with some good old country music, to be found in songs like "Happy Doing What We're Doing" and "It's Been So Long". Long forgotten but strong in songwriting and the sound of their studio performance, it's pure Brinsley Schwarz.
If you're more interested in the punk rock and hardcore scene, don't hesitate to buy the second album
Amen by the band of the same name. The album is a collection of punk-metal songs with uncompromising lyrics on serious topics, leaning towards the nu-metal. The rawness can be found in the intensity of the songs, like the crushing finale of "Resignation / Naked and Violent" and the galloping drums of the title track "Coma America". It's a filthy and harsh album, but also one with a lot of different song structures.
Amen is available as a limited edition of 1000 numbered copies and is pressed on silver vinyl.
Even if you're releasing just one album as a music duo, you still can shake the ground beneath your feet. That's exactly what the electronic duo of
Frou Frou did by releasing their album
Details in June 2002. Band members Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth combining elements of trip/hop, ambient, pop and rock by using a wide range of traditional instruments. The hypnotic melodies and uplifting lyrics are grounded in the electronic depths. Their first song "Let Go" opens with string and is a slightly dark exploration, while "Breathe In" got a dreamy atmosphere and includes scattered lyrics.
Details is available for the first time on vinyl and is pressed on 1.000 individually numbered copies on red vinyl and the package includes an 4-page booklet with song lyrics.
J.J. Cale has been widely acknowledged by many of his music colleagues as an influential musician. The creator of the so called Tulsa Sound wrote and recorded a lot well-known songs, of which many have been re-recorded by other artists. What to think about the soothing sounds of "Cocaine" or the summer classic "Call Me the Breeze". All those fine compositions are brought together on the
Collected album, an fantastic overview of his best work. Think about "Magnolia", "After Midnight", "Cajun Moon" and "Travelin' Light" and you get an idea of how important he's been as a musician. This Collected 3 LP set is available in a limited pressing of 3.000 individually numbered copies on gold vinyl and is packed in a high quality PVC protective sleeve.
