It's a diverse list of releases this week, including: dance by South African THEMBA on his debut record Modern Africa, Part 1 - Ekhaya on translucent red coloured vinyl; heavy metal with Metal Church The Dark, which is available on silver coloured vinyl; Eurodance on the multi-Platinum album Slave To The Music by Twenty 4 Seven, pressed on crystal clear & blue marbled vinyl; Alternative rock by the Japanese-born/New York-based duo Cibo Matto, who released the 2LP collection of their best material, titled Pom Pom, back in 2007 and is now available on translucent red coloured vinyl; Elvis Costello Kojak Variety solely consists of his cover versions of classic tracks by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Little Richard and Willie Dixon amongst others. The album is available on turquoise coloured vinyl; the Original Soundtrack by James Horner to the 2012 blockbuster film The Amazing Spider-Man, which is available on blue & red marbled vinyl and comes with several extras; and even Dutch 'Levenslied' by André Hazes on Voor Jou, pressed on orange coloured vinyl.
And if that isn't enough, the following titles are now in stores on black vinyl: Toy Matinee Toy Matinee, Flotsam and Jetsam No Place For Disgrace. In addition, Anouk's latest EP Trails Of Fails is back in stores.
Dutch vocalist Anouk is one of the most popular rock singers of The Netherlands. Her brand new album Trails of Fails describes her desire to keep on growing and discover new musical grounds. Trails of Fails is, in fact, a mini-album, consisting of seven tracks. Anouk recorded the album together with high profile producer Jim Abbiss, who previously worked with Arctic Monkeys, Adele and Kasabian amongst others.
The Japanese-born duo Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda relocated in New York and christened themselves with the band name Cibo Matto, which is Italian for “crazy food”. In 2007 they released Pom Pom: The Essential Cibo Matto, a collection of Cibo Matto material, including fan favourites, rarities and B-sides. The album features “Sugar”, “Moonchild” and “Spoon” amongst others.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) is based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and the fourth Spider-Man film produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment. The score is composed by James Horner. The American composer was known for the integration of choral and electronic elements and his frequent use of motifs associated with Celtic music.
The American heavy metal outfit Metal Church has been making music since 1980 and is led by Kurdt Vanderhoof. They released a total of twelve studio albums, including the second The Dark, which originally came out in 1986. The Dark features somber themes like assassination, death and the supernatural. It was produced by Mark Dodson, who is best known for producing albums by Anthrax and Suicidal Tendencies. The album features the singles “Start The Fire” and “Watch The Children Pray”, and fan favourites “Ton Of Bricks” and “Over My Dead Body”.
South African native THEMBA burst onto the global dance scene in 2018 with a string of high profile gigs and music releases. In 2021 he released his debut studio album Modern Africa, Part 1 - Ekhaya. Featuring wonderful local singer-songwriters through album.
The 1995 album Kojak Variety by Elvis Costello solely consists of cover songs written by others. Featured covers include “Strange” by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, “Bama Lama Bama Loo” by Little Richard, “Running Out Of Fools” by Aretha Franklin and “Hidden Charms” by Willie Dixon amongst others.
Toy Matinee had a short but celebrated career with their only album, the 1990 eponymous self-titled album. Their sound featured an array of influences, including progressive rock and pop.
The Dutch dance project Twenty 4 Seven scored several major hits during the Nineties. The group was founded in 1989 by producer Ruud van Rijen, who is seen as a pioneer in Eurodance. He was one of the first to put together a male rapper and female vocalist. In 1993 he gathered singer Nance Coolen and rapper Stay-C and recorded the third single “Slave To The Music”, which secured their big international breakthrough and became a major worldwide hit.
The American thrash metal band Flotsam & Jetsam originally released their second studio album No Place For Disgrace in 1988. The album includes the popular titletrack, “Dreams of Death” and “Saturday Night's Alright”. Three of the included tracks (“No Place For Disgrace”, “N.E. Terror” and “I Live You Die”) were co-written by Jason Newsted (Metallica).
