New MOV titles in stores May 12

Including Ministry, Marshall Crenshaw, The Dictators, K's Choice, Bilal, and Motown Collected Vol. 2 amongst others

This week we're continuing the Collected series with a second volume of Motown Collected. More early recordings, soul classics, and r&b hits from the legendary Motown Records label on this 2LP. Another compilation album is the retrospective 25, which features the very best from 25 years of K's Choice, including “Not An Addict” featuring Skin of Skunk Anansie.

Other new titles this week are the neo-soul classic 1st Born Second by Bilal (featuring the mega hit “Soul Sista”), Active Force's self-titled funk album with their big club hit “Give Me Your Love”,  The Dictators' Bloodbrothers with an uncredited guest appearance by The Boss Bruce Springsteen, and the self-titled album by Marshall Crenshaw featuring two of his biggest hits “Someday, Someway” and “Cynical Girl”. Also new are Lynyrd Skynyrd's last album with longtime keyboardist Billy Powell, God And Guns, and Ministry's last album with Paul Barker, Animositisomina, thus ending the band's “Hypo Luxa/Hermes Pan” production duo.

Available as reissues on coloured vinyl are Modern Lovers Rock 'N' Roll With The Modern Lovers, Vangelis Direct, and Jason Graves' soundtrack for The Order: 1886.

MARSHALL CRENSHAW - MARSHALL CRENSHAW

American singer, songwriter and guitarist Marshall Crenshaw is best known for his hits “Someday, Someway” and “Cynical Girl”, which both featured on his 1982 self-titled debut album. “Someday, Someway” originated as a take on Gene Vincent's “Lotta Lovin'”. The album saw critical acclaim and was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the top 100 albums of the 1980s.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD - GOD & GUNS

God & Guns is the 13th studio album by the southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd. It features the singles "Still Unbroken" and "Simple Life". "Still Unbroken" was written after the death of original bassist Leon Wilkeson in 2001. It was also the theme song of WWE's Breaking Point PPV event and is featured on WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010. "God & Guns" was the last Lynyrd Skynyrd album to feature the band's longtime keyboardist Billy Powell, who died in January 2009. Ean Evans, who had replaced Leon Wilkeson on bass, also passed away before this album came out.

ACTIVE FORCE - ACTIVE FORCE

Active Force were an American boogie, funk and soul quintet created by producer and songwriter Michael Stokes. Their self-titled album was released in 1983, contained the big club hit "Give Me Your Love", among "Cold Blooded Lover" and "My Sunshine". Michael Stokes had great success with songwriting, producing and working for Creative Source, Smokey Robinson, Janet Jackson, Brass Construction, and BT Express, while Grammy Award-winning pianist Patrice Rushen also participates on the Active Force album.

BILAL - 1ST BORN SECOND

1st Born Second is the 2001 debut neo-soul R&B/hip hop album by American singer, songwriter and record producer Bilal. The album also features the successful singles "Fast Lane" featuring Dr. Dre & Jadakiss and "Reminisce" featuring Mos Def and Common. Furthermore, Bilal was part of the 90's influential neo-soul collective The Soulquarians with members D'Angelo, Q-Tip, Common and Questlove.

Bloodbrothers is the third studio album by The Dictators. The band was energized after returning from a tour of England and being embraced by the emerging punk rock audience over there. As a result, almost 90 percent of this album was recorded live and stands as a good example of what the band sounded like on a good night.

VANGELIS - DIRECT

Direct is the 1988 studio album bij Vangelis and is known for its intriguing recording methods. The album was part of Vangelis' desire to shorten the distance between inspiration and realization of musical composition. This desire is realized by developing a method that allows to compose, arrange, and record simultaneously without the aid of computer pre-programming.

On 24 March 2017, the band K's Choice released the album 25 as a retrospective of their 25 years as a group. The album also included new song "Resonate" and the "Not an Addict" version featuring Skin that hadn't made its appearance on an album until then.  25 went to #4 on the Belgian album charts.

The album's title Animositisomina is a palindrome made of the word "animosity" spelled without the final letter and both forward and backward. This album nods to the group's new wave past with a cover of Magazine's "The Light Pours out of Me," the group returned to the quality of its Wax Trax prime on this record, with an opener (the title track) that ranks up there with classics like "Burning Inside" and "Just One Fix." Animositisomina is the last Ministry album with Paul Barker, thus ending the band's "Hypo Luxa/Hermes Pan" production duo.
