Melvins, Cactus, Santana, Death in Vegas, Weather Report, Golden Earrings and the soundtracks Hero and Daughters of Darkness.
It's our final release week of this fantastic vinyl year. Let's start our last journey of 2018 with an iconic album classic, Melvins' Houdini. This essential '90s release captures the band's power, vision, and musical strangeness. It combines elements of grunge with hard rock and sludge metal. Another impressive release is Cactus' fourth album 'Ot 'N' Sweaty. This was the band's final album before their long hiatus, that lasted until 2006. The album is partially recorded live and other tracks are recorded in the studio. Santana's frontman Carlos Santana re-entered the pop/rock world in 1981 by releasing Zebop! Santana does a great job at covering Russ Ballard's "Winning" and including his famous Latino sound on tracks like "E Papa Re" and "American Gypsy".
Death in Vegas' third album Scorpio Rising features guest vocalists Liam Gallagher, Hope Sandoval, Nicola Kuperus, and Paul Weller. Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes created one of their finest records by combining synths with guitar rock and psychedelia. The first pressing of Scorpio Rising is available as a 2.500 individually numbered copies on red vinyl. The jazz-fusion band Weather Report releases their self-titled debut album in 1971. Wayne Shorter's (1960s Miles Davis ensemble) soprano sax shines and reveals with full force the extraordinary talents of the members of the group. During the first years of the Golden Earrings existence they made a huge progression by releasing their second album Winter-Harvest. They were stronger and more ambitious as before and wrote 14 original songs for the album. Winter-Harvest is available as a limited first pressing of 1.000 individually numbered copies on yellow vinyl.
On our At The Movies label we're releasing two soundtracks. The first is the 2002 Chinese wuxia film Hero, directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Jet Li as the protagonist. The famous Chinese classical composer and conductor Tan Dun composed the soundtrack to the movie. Hero is available as a pressing of 1.000 individually numbered copies on "flaming" coloured (yellow & orange mixed) vinyl. The soundtrack to the erotic vampire film Daughters of Darkness consists of different musical elements and it is an seductive score. The album is available as a first pressing of 1.500 individually numbered copies on transparent vinyl. The package contains an exclusive poster + printed innersleeve.
Daughters of Darkness was created by multiple award winning composer François de Roubaix, who is seen as a precursor of the French electronic music next to his jazz expertise. Years after its original release, the music was picked up and sampled by several hip hop artists, such as Ice-T, Ab-Soul and Lil Wayne. Critics, actors and directors call it one of the best horror movies ever made.
Scorpio Rising is the third album by British electronica band Death in Vegas, which features guest vocalists Liam Gallagher, Hope Sandoval, Nicola Kuperus, and Paul Weller. Death in Vegas' Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes created one of their finest records by combining synths with guitar rock and psychedelia.
Weather Report released their self-titled debut album in 1971. Featuring Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter amongst others, the young musicians created an original and fluid record, which would define the state of the jazz rock by that time. Shorter's (1960s Miles Davis ensemble) soprano sax shines and reveals with full force the extraordinary rapport the members of the group established from the start.
