DESCRIPTION

Racoon started in 1997 as an acoustic duo made up of singer Bart van der Weide and guitarist Dennis Huige. They were joined by bass player Stefan de Kroon and drummer Paul Bukkens a year later, and their self-released demo It's an Ice Cream Day earned them the attention of several record companies and many positive reviews from the Dutch press. In 1999, Racoon were signed to Sony's S.M.A.R.T. label and at the end of the year they went into the ICP-studios in Brussels to record their full-length debut, Till Monkeys Fly. The album was produced by Michel "Magic Stick" Schoots from Urban Dance Squad; the end mix was done by Phil Nicolo and Bob Ludwig was responsible for the mastering of the album. The album was released in January 2000. The band was being touted as "the next big thing" and their single "Feel Like Flying" was a power play on Dutch Radio. Racoon also played at the Parkpop and Lowlands festivals. This was followed in 2001 with singles "Smoothly" and "Eric's Bar" and a new album in 2001 titled new album Here We Go, Stereo. Received my box set today #0013 very pleased, I knew MOV would do these records justice was surprised to see Found All The Parts as a 12” vs the original 10 I only got through In Color but plan on diving into rest all week as time allows. I know as Cheap Trick fans we all have these but do yourself a favor and get this.

'Exciting' pressing!

Fantastic pressing, by MOV. I didn't know what to expect when I opened the seal but the first bars of 'Jump (For My Love)' were enough to know that this is a great pressing. The moog shines like never before and the synths sound electric ⚡. Vocals are clear and center of stage.
Even in the chaotic passages the record stands tall and the separation stays in tact. I love the fact that 'I'm So Excited ' is included on this version because apart from Energy I won't need another Pointer Sisters record.

The artwork is nice and looks authentic. Not blurry at all, the same quality as an old record sleeve from the 80's which is good. Also the reproduction of the Planet labels is a nice touch.

The purple vinyl is dead silent and fits the theme of the sleeve, although I prefer black, this pressing doesn't seem to have any faults.

Fantastic pressing by MOV, amazing that they repressed this holy grail, such an amazing album.

The record sounds crisp and sometimes a bit bright even, but no problems with sibilance whatsoever. It sounds life-like and visceral in some passages. Beautiful low-end, with a warm and rolling sound, a feat which MOV has been executing perfectly on their reissues lately. The background is pitch black and gives room for the music to breath.

Also a nice bonus is the sleeve which has great detailed cover art which is not always the case with MOV and also cool they did a textured lamination.

A story come to life

This reissue of The Flat Earth gives the album new life. With tight and most of all deep bass, MOV gets one of the important factors of this album spot on.

The songs get a fresh sound that have details presented in a way I have not heard before. The White City is crisps and life-like which is the same for I Scare Myself. The spectacular sound on the record really makes it worth the replacement.

But not everything is all en well, if I'm being critical, the dynamics of Dissidents is not very great. The vocals of Thomas Dolby are low in volume and barely comes through and secondly, the cover of the sleeve is not very high quality. But if you are here for the music, this definitely makes up for it!
