Five year old Saroo (Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire) gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.
Lion received six Oscar nominations at the 89th Academy Awards, including Best Original Score, Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Patel), Best Supporting Actress (Kidman) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Dustin O'Halloran, one half of the Ambient duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen, and Hauschka teamed up to write the score for the film.
In 2015 O'Halloran was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music for his original theme for Transparent.
Dustin also composed the critically acclaimed soundtrack for the 2016 movie Iris.
Hauschka, Volker Bertelmann, is a German pianist and composer. In 2007, he signed with 130701, an imprint of Fat Cat Records, who provided an early home to Sigur Rós and who have also championed artists with a similarly adventurous spirit to Bertelmann's own, including Max Richter and Sylvian Chameau. Hauschka is also a member of Music A.M., a side project involving Stefan Schneider of To Rococo Rot and Luke Sutherland of Long Fin Killie. In collaboration with Torsten Mauss he also releases electronic music under the alias Tonetraeger.
Sia wrote and performs the song "Never Give Up".
