Visions of the Emerald Beyond is a more accessible album, consisting of shorter jazz-rock tracks. The songs are connected with each other and even got some influences from the funk music of that time. Fast-paces fusion tracks are alternated with some shorter arranged pieces. "Lila's Dance" is an outstanding track, consisting of guitar riffs and beautiful piano and violin melodies. This album is a magnificent musical work of virtuosity at its highest level and proves that the 2nd Mahavishnu Orchestra line-up is as good as the original one.
Mahavishnu Orchestra have been cited many times as a big influence on everyone from King Crimson and Frank Zappa to The Mars Volta. Frontman and guitarist John McLaughlin has always been the main figure in the band, both during their first (1971-1976) and second line-up (1984-1987).
