Boces - MOVLP317

Mercury Rev

From very early on it became clear that Mercury Rev were a different kind of music group.
They created songs the size of canyons with a capacity for chaos that is unparalleled.
Their druggy, epic, sprawling avant-garde noise pop hit the underground in the early nineties and got them kicked off the stage at Lollapalooza while promoting their sophomore album Boces.
With members of The Flaming Lips and influenced by Sonic Youth and The Velvet Underground, Mercury Rev's neo-psychedelic dreampop on Boces comes out best on songs like opener 'Meth Of A Rockette's Kick', while their approach to teeny-bop ends up in a drug infused meth den on 'Something For Joey.'
Internal conflicts and personal disputes led to the departure of vocalist and lead man David Baker shortly after this album, which meant that Mercury Rev became more focused & started orchestrating with strings instead of guitars & fuzz.
This album is a must-have for all who want to explore the origins of one of the most innovative bands in the indie-genre!
