Music On Vinyl is excited to announce an exclusive cooperation with Experience Hendrix LLC and Sony Music Entertainment.
The first fruits of this new alliance will be a series of remastered vinyl releases from Jimi's huge catalogue, as well as the deluxe vinyl release of 'Valleys of Neptune', an album containing 12 previously unreleased tracks, carefully compiled by the Jimi Hendrix estate.
The March 8th wave of Jimi Hendrix releases will consist of the following LP's:
- Valleys of Neptune (MOVLP075) 2LP
- First Rays of the New Rising Sun (MOVLP076) 2LP
- Are You Experienced (MOVLP077) 2LP
- Electric Ladyland (MOVLP078) 2LP
- Axis : Bold as Love (MOVLP079) 1LP
- Band of Gypsys (MOVLP080) 1LP
All releases will contain superbly finished 8-page LP sized booklets, hardcover gatefold sleeves and will be pressed on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.
The Music on Vinyl team is proud to add an artist as influential as Jimi Hendrix to their roster. Influencing guitarists and pop culture in general many years after his death, his music and imagery are still as valid today as they were 40 years ago.
Music On Vinyl releases are available throughout Europe at any specialist record shop that has a customer import ordering service.
www.authentichendrix.com says they will be "all analogue", just like the "axis: bold as love" reissue from 2008. Hope they will be as good as that reissue.
Amazon (.com, .co.uk etc) usually ship before release date.
@Mike:
It's already on pre-order at Amazon.com and the usual more specialised vinyl sites.
Hope this helps
Good question! Would like to know that too.
I do hope they are the same, and if not I will go for the all analogue that are listed on the official Hendrix online site.
are sure "Are You Experienced" will be a 2LP?
www.authentichendrix.com says it will be a 1LP.
Maybe you can provide us with a tracklisting too, because US versions of this Lp have different tracks than the European ones.
thank you!
These releases are a bit confusing, with regard to the US releases on Sony/Legacy. Did George Marino and Eddie Kramer have anything to do with the mastering for the titles that you are selling? Not that it matters to me, but as fans, and people spending $$$, it would be nice if all the info was upfront and honest. I'm a big fan but do not want to buy multiple versions of these records (AGAIN) looking for the best sounding one. We know that the US ones are all analogue, and cut at Sterling in NYC, from analog masters. What are the sources for your releases? Thanks in advance for the info!
These records do NOT have 'sterling' or 'gm/ek' in the deadwax, like the new US versions. So, basically that means that all
those precious 2-track mixdown tapes would be flown in from New York to the Netherlands for a different vinyl cutting, not directly approved by Eddie Kramer ????
Why didn't 'Experience Hendrix' just send the platters (metal parts) that were cut at Sterling Sound ? They also did that with the recent European Hendrix reissue's of AYE and Axis on Back2Vinyl/Universal.
Furthermore, AYE on MOV is not the same release as the new US one; the US one is a single album, MOV's 2 LP is modelled after the 1997 remaster.
Lastly, I listened to the new First rays 2LP on MOV and it sounds NOTHING like the original US pressings on which these songs first appeared.
Not half as dynamic and lively. In fact, it sounds a lot like the 1997 CD remaster, which has been repeatedly critized for its overly hot mastering.
Please gentlemen at MOV, I appreciate what you do but stay factual. Rather no information, than incorrect information. Even when unintentional.
Best,
Menno
I don't know who you spoke to, but these are the REAL facts:
All our records have been cut and pressed in the Netherlands, using the same audio-masters as the Legacy versions, directly from Sterling. Testings have been approved by both Sony US, as well as the Experience members themselves, so we don't give you incorrect information.
Are You Experienced isn't even released yet, so I'm keen to find out how you could have listened to our version?
About "First Rays", this is your opinion. The Experience has a different opinon.
It took us months to get all titles approved, so please know the facts before you start judging, thanks.
since you wrote "Are You Experienced isn't even released yet":
do you know when "Are You Experienced" will be released?
thank you,
Herman
no official date yet, but we'll keep you informed!
could you please explain why, if the same mastertapes were used, jpc lists the MOV version of "Valleys of Neptune" as having 18 songs, while the Legacy version is listed as having 12 songs? Same with "Are You Experienced"; here, jpc lists the MOV version as having 17 songs, while the Legacy version is listed as having 11 songs.
What is the reason for the differences?
Thanks in advance.
I think jpc.de makes a mistake about "Valleys": it just lists the last 6 songs twice
Don't know about AYE, but I do know that the 1997 version and the BackToBlack version both had 17 songs (it's a pity that the Legacy version only has 11 songs). I'll just wait until the MOV-version comes out and then we'll see.
Herman (I'm not MOVadmin)
Is the same art book of the vinyls and cds? i wanna say, the same pictures, the same characters, every little detail.....it is say, Is a copy the art book vinyl from the art book cd?
Also;
The first batch from Sony was numbered
- are these MOV releases numbered?
How many are pressed of each title?
- Poul
The booklets in our Hendrix LP's are not exact 100% 'blown up versions' of the cd-booklets, but they do contain picturess and text that are featured in the cd-booklets as well. However, the pics of Jimi look much better in the LP-sized booklets of course :-)
@Poul
The Hendrix LP's on Music On Vinyl are not numbered and -at this moment- not restricted to a certain limited number of pressed copies. However, this may not mean we will press them till infinity.
