Dan Penn is mostly known as a songwriter for other artists since the mid sixties. He's responsible for writing classics such as "Do Right Woman Do Right Man" by Aretha Franklin, "I'm Your Puppet" by Bobby & James Purify, "You Left The Water Running" by Wilson Pickett and many more.
In 1994, Dan finally picked up the guitar and revisited 10 of his own compositions by singing himself. And to great effect, he adds fragile and beautiful magic to these already great songs. The Music On Vinyl release of Do Right Man is a must-have as it's never been released on vinyl before!
British band Tindersticks formed in 1991, renowned for their orchestral sound and their vocalist Stuart A. Staples' characteristic baritone. We're proud to release Tindersticks (II), their second eponymous album, as a double LP complete with a 4-page booklet. Be quick: the first 1000 copies are numbered and pressed on baby blue vinyl!
In 2005, Berlin based DJ-collective Jazzanova dug deep in the Blue Note vaults and came up with a masterful selection of the best that Blue Note has to offer. We release this compilation on 2 double LPs: Movin' On and Lookin' Back.
There are absolutely no 'obvious' choices on this comprehensive collection. Movin' On boasts mostly pre-1975 tracks by Gene Harris, Horace Silver, Bobbi Humphrey a.o. Highly recommended!
The second part of the Blue Note Trip compilation by Jazzanova, originally released in 2005. Lookin' Back puts the spotlight on tracks by Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutcherson and more.
